Surround Sound Wireless 5.1 And 7.1 Systems
Surround sound wireless speakers have become a preferred choice for use with home entertainment devices. In order to achieve true surround sound you will need a so-called 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system. The '.1' in the two systems relates to a subwoofer, the speaker engineered to output low sounds; the other number refers to the quantity of satellite speakers. In a 5.1 setup, you have center, front right, front left, and rear left and right satellites. 7.1 systems are identical, except with the inclusion of left and right side speakers.
As to whether the extra expense of a 7.1 surround sound setup is worth it, it's a matter of personal preference. Numerous people will probably explain that the difference is marginal, so that if you're on a tight budget, you are better off spending your funds on a better 5.1 system, than you would be a not so good 7.1 one. Some believe that a 7.1 system may only be justified if you have an especially sizeable room and that a properly configured, quality 5.1 setup will be satisfactory for all but the biggest locations. Even so, if you have the finances on hand and a substantial room, then a 7.1 system can provide a genuinely immersive acoustic experience.
True surround sound wireless audio systems can be really tricky to find, however there are many surround sound systems that can be purchased that provide
wireless rear speakers. This is obviously the best choice - often you will currently have many of cables connecting your Television, PVR, DVD system, etc., so a few additional leads going to the the front left/right and center speakersdon't make much difference. Yet, not having cables trailing to the back of the room can be a great
advantage.
So that you can take advantage of your speakers, you should consider buying good surround sound speaker stands. The stands you choose can have a surprising influence on the listening experience. They can also look nice, and several have in-built cable management in order to keep any wires concealed. They will also help you locate the speakers at the ideal height.
