Have You Heard About The Hair Loss Pill

If you consumed a hair loss pill everyday you would be almost certain of retaining a full head of hair. The pill is named propecia, and it is a creation of scientific serendipity, which is one way of saying that it is a fortunate, accidental consequence.

Over 20 years ago, Merck Pharmaceuticals presented a drug called proscar to the public. Proscar was accredited for the prevention of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. The active element in proscar is 5mg of finasteride. The medicine was taken daily by a group of men that were more than sixty, and who were afflicted with the disorder, BPH. Finasteride was not only discovered to stop the development of prostate cancer, but was also seen to encourage hair growth, and so the hair loss pill was created. Further testing by Merck has proven that the lowest effective dosage of finasteride was 1mg.

All in all, a two year test performed on almost two thousand adult males showed that 83% of them maintained, or in fact, increased their hair mass from the neckline. This original test began over a decade ago, and it was found that the original test subjects actually maintained those great results for four years after the trial had finished. The 1mg of finasteride was distributed under the brand name, Propecia.

A further result of ingesting propecia, is that it changes the levels of testosterone in the body, and therefore is available only on prescription. The advice of a physician should be requested and the suggested dosage followed explicitly. Hormonal balances can be delicate and keeping to a regular dose helps to ensure stability.

The falling of hair might not be a sign that you should commence taking the hair loss pill straight away. There is a normal three phase process of hair loss and renewal that at times, can be literally stunned into a premature shedding stage. This apparently spontaneous shedding, also known as Telegen Effluvium, is a temporary condition and generally leads to replacement hair growth.

Propecia treatment is an extremely gradual process and requires patience on the part of the user. One should not expect results for approximately three months, with typical regrowth not noticeable until the eighth month. Maximum results do not show until at least one year after commencement of the treatment.
