Beth was the mother of four children. Beth had been feeling quite nervous lately and started to "medicate" herself by drinking several glasses of wine each night after she tucked her children into bed. After around eleven weeks of this drinking routine, she at last realized that instead of helping her calm down and deal with her problems, drinking alcohol made her feel less restful when she awakened in the morning. Armed with these insights and with the medications her doctor prescribed, she finally refrained from drinking, she began to feel much less depressed, and she started scheduling more time for social activities with her family and friends. It was clear that Beth had certainly come a long way. In point of fact, just around five months after she completed her counseling, she had finally laid the ghost of Robert, her former husband, to rest and was beginning to feel more self worth and more spiritually"alive" and psychologically "together" than she had ever felt in her life.
